A few years ago I bought a Verve compilation, and it had 2 Nina Simone songs “Sinnerman” and “Black Is The Color of My True Loves Hair”. Since then I’ve been hooked.

Re: How did you come to love Nina Simone?
Tue, September 26, 2006 - 3:45 PMI was watching a movie with Bridgett Fonda as an assassin ( I can't remember the name of the movie. ) Anyway, I heard the song "Black Is The Color of My True Love's Hair" and fell in love. At the time it was on cable so I had to watch the whole movie just to find out who sung the song. -

Re: How did you come to love Nina Simone?
Mon, October 9, 2006 - 7:36 PMThe movie with Bridget Fonda is "Point of No Return," based on the French film "La Femme Nikita."
I loved Nina before I knew I loved her, before I had heard her, I loved her name. My parents saw her live in concert in Montreal in the late '60s, and were huge fans. And then, it was through my dear friends Kelly and Ben that I think I heard "I want a little sugar in my bowl," and the sweet and aching and sorrowful and deep and severe loveliness of that voice split my heart in two. Since then, I've been collecting her music and loving every song I hear.
